2 Peter

2 Peter Homework: A Quick Summary

Peter’s second letter was written to the same audience as his first- those scattered around Asia minor. Once again, the people were dealing with not only the temptation to turn away from the gospel, but with many false teachers that were challenging the authority of Christ. Peter wanted to debunk these ideas with a reminder that he saw these things happen with his own eyes. (1:16-18) He wanted to encourage the people to lead godly lives and to anticipate the return of Christ. (1:3-7) In fact, he wrote that this could even be quickened by as, for God’s delay is because of his longing to bring redemption to as many people as possible (3:8-10). People may scoff saying that if He has not yet come, he never will. (3:3-7) But stand firm! Peter encouraged them to live lives that would prove who they belong to. Much like Jesus prophesied by renaming him Peter, he is building a foundation - a rock- on their identity in Christ.
